Protect your TV During your Move

couple moving tvSomething awful that can go wrong when you’re moving is accidentally shattering the TV. At A-1 Freeman Moving Group, we know how unfortunate it is to to get all moved in but not be able to sit down and relax in front of the TV because it broke. We want to make sure your move is as stressless as we can here in Wichita Falls, whether you’re moving locally or long distance. We know how hard it can be, so we write up a few tips and tricks to use when you are you need to pack up your TV.

First off, you will need a box that’s appropriate for your TV. Using the box and packaging that it came in is a great idea – if you have it still. If you got rid of it though, you can find a package made specially for moving flat-panel TVs from somewhere like a hardware store or a moving supply store. You should get a box that is just a little bit bigger than the TV, but not by a lot; you don’t want the TV to move around when it’s inside. To move fragile and large items requires packing and moving knowledge, not just big moving trucks or specialized equipment. At A-1 Freeman Moving Group we have a team of experienced movers who can help you with your move, even if that means securing your TV and making sure it’s packaged up correctly.

Before unplugging everything, you should take a picture of the strip on your TV with all the cords plugged in. This will make it much easier when you have to reinstall everything. After this, you can start getting your TV ready to pack. First disconnect the main power cord, then unplug all the other connecting wire. Place everything into a bag together and keep it with the box. Sometimes there is a base you need to remove from the television to fit it in the box. If that’s the case, make sure to put all screws and other parts in a little bag and keep it with the TV so nothing gets lost.

After this is done, you can get the TV all packed up. It doesn’t matter whether you are going far from Wichita Falls or you are simply moving locally, it’s important to know your television is properly covered. You should use foam pieces to cover the TV screen, you will find some in your kit if you got one, or in the box that your TV came in originally if you are using that. The foam not only keeps the screen from being scratched, but it also will keep your television from shifting around in the box when you’re moving. Secure the foam pieces with mover’s wrap or tape. Then use blankets or sheets to cover the TV and prevent it from being scratched.

When your TV is all covered up it’s time to place it into the box! Keep it upright when you do this, and secure it by filling in spaces and gaps with blankets or even clothes. This keeps the TV from shifting around in its box.

loading boxes into truck The last step is to get the television inside of the truck, or let the movers do it for you. Make sure you keep the box upright and try to put it next to or between other flat surfaced, solid objects, including your mattress, dresser, or a bookshelf. You can’t forget to put your cables close to the TV, in a bag taped to the side or in another box.

Once that’s done you’re all ready to go! Hopefully you have a moving company here in Wichita Falls to help you out, getting you across the country or your town quickly and safely, with all of your stuff intact. If not, A-1 Freeman Moving Group has got you covered! We can move you fast and efficiently, and we’ll make sure your TV is safe and sound so you have it all up and running when the big game comes around.
