8 Tips for Moving to Wichita Falls with Kids

Moving with Kids - Moving Boxes

It is incredibly exhilarating to have a new place to live. Especially if the move is an improvement to your present situation.

But kids may not look at things in the same light, particularly if they have close buddies and/or family where they live already. The thought of moving to a different school and away from current relationships can cause a great deal of anxiety in children.

While it could be difficult for children to move away from the usual people, places, and things, there are things you should do to aid the transition to Wichita Falls.

Honest Communication

Make sure they know what is going on each stage along the process. Children must feel free to express their fears as well as asking questions so be ready to offer info and answer any questions they may have. While some of their opinions and concerns may not be positive, be ready with understanding and positive answers. Be careful to not invalidate their worries but, rather, acknowledge their concerns and explain solutions that you can work together to overcome them.

Introduce Them to Their New Home in Wichita Falls

When feasible, let them visit the new area and even to the new house. Let them get acquainted to where they will be moving to. If it is not possible to go to the new house and locale, take pictures or videos so they'll have an inkling of what the new place will be like. Be positive to call attention to all of the positive aspects of the move (larger rooms, huge yard, etc.).

Take them for a Tour of the School

It may not be possible to do this on site, but the vast majority of education institutions in America are on the internet. Look up the local school board's website and you'll most of the time find links to your child(ren's) new school(s). Explain to them the various school clubs and activities that they can participate in. School may be a giant source of worry for children and also an impactful part of their lives, so it is vital that they are feeling comfortable before their first day at a new school. If you are capable of taking them on an actual tour of the new school, be sure to introduce them to important people like the principals and guidance counselors.

Involve Them in Packing

There are lots of age-appropriate ways that kids can be involved in the task of packing up. Have them help you pack up their personal possessions in moving boxes and have them label the boxes of their stuff. (A perk is they can go through their stuff and donate or discard things that they no longer use.)

Stick with Routines

Moving to Wichita Falls may be a stressful and tiring occasion for parents but do not allow this to deter you from maintaining the same well-known routines the kids are used to. Children need predictability to feel secure and moving time is one of those times when it's even more necessary. Since they are already going through a period of uncertainty by moving to an unfamiliar place, it's very vital to keep as many things familiar as possible.

Decorate Their Rooms First

Kids need organization and familiarity so it's important that their new rooms be as familiar to them as possible. By decorating their bedrooms first, you let them know that they are cherished parts of a new life. Keeping them involved in the process fortifies this need and makes them feel special and “at home”.

Investigate the New Neighborhood

Help your children in getting to know the new area, landmarks, and neighbors. Encourage them to meet new friends and learn the geometry of the new area so they do not feel quite so lost.

Avoid Stress

When parents stress, kids stress. That's why it is beneficial to employ everything you can think of to make sure you do not get stressed out, yourself. By hiring a professional moving company to aid you in your household move, you remove a lot of the stress from your shoulders so you can concentrate more on the crucial stuff.

The end game when moving with children is to make sure they are feeling safe and secure. If you seize every chance to help them see the good side of the move and get excited about it, your chances of making them feel cherished are higher and they'll be much happier embracing your new home in Wichita Falls.

Best. Move. Ever!
Very pleased with the overall respect and care the men gave to my possessions. Even mailing me very quickly the only thing lost in transit. Would recommend to anyone needing a long distant move.
