We've all read about the most efficient methods to pack up a house, but what about after you get to your new place? As with anything
in life, unpacking from a move to Wichita Falls does have some best practices. You can certainly simplify the unpacking
piece of the moving process by planning ahead.
Unpacking
in an organized fashon can help you reduce
lots of the turmoil and disjointedness
that could likely ensue after you arrive
at your new home. If you cannot
find what you need to live, it makes it pretty difficult
to feel like you are living normally.
Part
of a seamless unpacking process involves preparation
for it as you are packing. A couple things
to remember as you pack include the following:
- Label
boxes. This
is super simple advice, but you'll never be more glad about following this advice as when you are running
around your new home looking for the
box with the forks in it. Is it
labeled? Excellent!
- Pack
a day bag. A small satchel or
duffel bag can accommodate
your hairbrush, a change of
clothes, and anything else you know you will definitely
need right away in the new abode.
- Donate items you don't need. The fewer belongings
you move, the faster it will be to unpack. There are definitely some items that you won't
want to get rid of, but if there are things
that you don't want, ponder
donating them to someone who can use them.
After
the moving company has unloaded the moving boxes at your
new abode, how you unpack can also lessen
chaos. Here are a few of our popular
tips:
- Put
together your bed first. There
is nothing better after a demanding day
of moving and unpacking than to sink into a soft
bed. If you assemble your bed and put on sheets
first, you will be glad
later. This goes for every member of the house.
If you hired professional movers, they can do this task
for you.
- Begin
with the necessities. Things like coffee mugs, plates and glasses and eating utensils, and your computer station
are some of the important items you
will need as you commence life in your new home.
Prior to getting into the nuts
and bolts, think about
what you want to have in place today and tomorrow. Begin
there.
- Box your boxes. Many times, rooms
become piled with empty boxes and bubble wrap during the unpacking process. You can't keep under control what you have left if it's impeded
with discarded packing supplies. Keep one box all in
one piece and fill it with other
empty cartons that you've broken down. That
way, you can view how much you still have to unpack.
Your box of boxes can be trashed or, preferably,
recycled.
- Group your
shopping trips. Even if you have planned, you will most likely need to run to the store to get toilet
paper, more bags, light bulbs, or other new items. In lieu of making a trip every time you
need an item, start a running list of needed
materials so that you can buy
everything in a single trip. You will save time
and money, and also reduce
your stress.
- Do not
settle on furniture layout too hurriedly.
Too
many people find themselves locked into room layouts the day they move into a new house.
Grant yourself some space—not
everything must be unchangeable immediately. Old sofa
that you adored at your old place may
seem awkward in your new home.
That is okay. Give
yourself some time to get settled and you will get a
better idea if you can make it work.
This also goes for art on the walls. It is
your home! There's no need to hurry.
- Establish Which
Areas Are Most Vital. The most common error
that is made during the unpacking process is a refusal to execute
the chore piece by piece.
Rather, we attempt to
unpack the complete house at once. Once all of your belongings have arrived at the house,
take a moment to look around and
decide which areas are most critical.
The rooms that you usually spend the most
time in are the ones that should be given priority.
-
Set Feasible Goals. In most instances,
you are not going to be able to tackle all
of the unpacking in one fell swoop. Don't
push yourself too much in the first couple days. There is going to be an abundance
to do and none of the tasks are going
anywhere. Set realistic goals and
stick to them. Pick the room that
needs to be focused on first and finish it prior
to moving onto the next job.
- Pick a Reward for Achieving the Deadline. For those who are moving with the
total family, it might be challenging
to have everyone going in the same direction. Each family member could have their own agendas and the
process of making sure that everyone is pulling in the same direction can be quite grueling.
Coming up with a reward for achieving
a predetermined deadline is a great
way around this fiasco. By creating
a reward, you are doing your part to keep every single member of the family working together. No one will want to slack off. Selecting a deadline will also keep you from
the annoyances of having to deal with numerous items that haven’t
been put away yet after you have already moved to Wichita Falls and gotten
somewhat settled.
